Moorpark Claims Two of Three Top Prizes in Gold; Ventura the Other

Fresh off their 2016 Western State Conference Gold Division Championship the Moorpark College softball team claimed two of the top three prizes in the division. Moorpark’s Caitlin Vinyard was named the Pitcher of the Year, while Head Coach Dave Fox was named the Coach of the Year. Ventura College’s Julia Garcia rounded out the awards, taking home the Player of the Year nod.

Los Angeles Mission College sophomore Melissa Boundy was named the Western State Conference Blue Division Player of the Year, while College of the Canyons sophomore Ashley Russo was named the WSC Blue Pitcher of the Year. Canyons top man John Wissmath meanwhile took home WSC Blue Coach of the Year honors.

The College of the Canyons Softball team ran away with the 2016 Western State Conference Blue Division Championship. The Cougars finished their 2016 conference campaign 19-2, five games in front of the second place finisher.

The Moorpark College Softball team won their Western State Conference record 15th conference title early last week, when they swept Los Angeles Pierce College to claim the WSC Gold title. The wins, propelled the Raiders back in front of College of the Canyons who had clinched their 14th WSC title the week before.
