Moorpark Snags WSC North Title after Defeating Pierce
WOODLAND HILLS, CA - Moorpark College collected the softball program's 17th title in program history on Thursday afternoon after topping LA Pierce, 8-0, in a five-inning showdown. | ORIGINAL RELEASE
The Raiders got the scoring started in the top of the 1st when Danielle Bishop singled, stole second, and scored on Malory Ahklghi's single. The Raiders added two more in the 2nd when Bishop singled scoring Aslyn Olson and Maddy Mekari. 3-0 Raiders going to the 3rd. The Raiders kept it going with Leah Cowans RBI double scored Ahklghi. Cowans scored on Isabella Velasquez's SAC fly. Kylie Kolkowski RBI single scored Mekari after she was walked. 6-0 Raiders after 3.
The Raiders added 2 more runs, one each in the 4th and 5th to get the 8-0 mercy rule win. Pitcher Amanda Smith struck out 7 and allowed 3 hits to get her 25th win on the year.
The Raiders will host Cuesta next Tuesday, 4/23, for the regular season finale. They currently have a two-game lead on the Cougars with a spotless 13-0 league record.
