Solvang, CA -- The Santa Barbara City College Women's Golf program clinched their sixth Western State Conference team championship on Monday afternoon at the 2015 WSC Finals. The Vaqueros won their third straight conference match of the season to withstand a late charge by Citrus College for their second conference championship in the last three years.
Freshman Carolin Chang led the charge for Santa Barbara, as she ran away with the WSC Individual Championship by two strokes on the season. Chang averaged 73.78 strokes per round on the season, and 72.57 strokes per round after throwing out her two highest scores. That was two strokes better than last year's conference champion, Lexandra So of Citrus, who came in second, and three strokes better than So's teammate Jamie Lopez.
On the team side Santa Barbara closed out the season with a 322 on the first day, besting second place Citrus College by five strokes. They followed that up on Monday with a 333, still seven strokes better than second place Citrus and third place College of the Canyons who both posted team scores of 340.
All three of those schools will represent the Western State Conference next along with Bakersfield College's Janette Chan, who posted the second best two round total of the event, and Stephanie Valdez at next weekend's 2015 Southern California Championships, which will take place at the same course that this weekend's WSC Finals took place, Alisal Ranch Golf Course. Tee-time is set for 8:30 AM on Sunday November 8th.
