Fresh off the program’s first conference title since 2007 and first outright conference championships since 1998, the Bakersfield College Men’s Basketball team claimed the top two spots in the WSC South awards over the weekend. Sophomore wing Deandre Dickson repeated as the WSC South Player of the Year and 11th year Head Coach Rich Hughes earned his second career WSC South Coach of the Year award.
Ventura College sophomore guard Elijah Brown was named the WSC North Men’s Basketball Player of the Year, while Ventura College Head Coach Joey Ramirez and Moorpark College Head Coach Gerred Link were both named the WSC North Co-Coaches of the Year.
With Moorpark College’s double-overtime victory over Cuesta College and Ventura College’s win over Oxnard College both on Saturday, the two schools clinched the 2016 Western State Conference North Division Men’s Basketball Championship. It’s the sixth WSC North title for Moorpark and the 13th for Ventura.
The Bakersfield College Men's Basketball team clinched an outright Western State Conference South Division Championship on Wednesday evening. The Renegades did so thanks to a 82-57 win over West Los Angeles College at home on the night.
