Gades Claim Second Straight WSC South Championship
For the second straight year, the Western State Conference South Division Men’s Basketball Championship has come from the North in the form of Bakersfield College. The Gades claimed their second straight WSC crown earlier than any other WSC team, clinching it with a win on Saturday February 11th.

Bakersfield finished the regular season 20-9 overall and an impressive 7-1 in WSC South play. The Renegades clinched the early conference title with a 70-66. Bakersfield had a one game lead on second place Santa Monica with one left after West LA, when the Corsairs faltered at College of the Canyons, giving the Gades the outright championship.
The Renegades are one of two WSC South teams to qualify for the playoffs, earning the #9 seed. Bakersfield will travel to #8 Chaffey College on Friday evening, while Santa Monica College, seeded #19, will head out to former WSC South rival and current WSC East member and #14 seeded Antelope Valley College for a Wednesday evening game and the right to take on #3 seed Saddleback College on Saturday night.
