Citrus’ Lauer and Bartow’s Wright Earn East COY; Barstow’s Drayton Named POY
Citrus College first year head coach Brett Lauer and Barstow College fourth year head coach Gerry Wright shared the Coach of the Year honors in the WSC East after the two teams shared the conference title. Barstow secure the lone Player of the Year nod however in the form of sophomore forward Christian Drayton.
Citrus College first year head coach Brett Lauer and Barstow College fourth year head coach Gerry Wright shared the Coach of the Year honors in the WSC East after the two teams shared the conference title. Barstow secure the lone Player of the Year nod however in the form of sophomore forward Christian Drayton.
Drayton, who earned 1st team All-Foothill Conference honors last year as a freshman with the Vikings, was named the Player of the Year as one of the top big men in the State. Drayton led the WSC in rebounding at 12.4 boards a game. Drayton was no slouch on the offensive end either, averaging 14.5 points per game on 52.4% shooting from the floor.
Lauer helped lead the Owls to the #6 seed in the Southern California playoffs and their first conference title since 2012 in just his first year at the helm. Wright helped guide the Vikings to the title in Barstow's first season as a member of the Western State Conference, and for their first conference title since 1985.
