Ryan and Hooper Split Coach of the Year Nod; LeDuff Wins Second Straight Player of the Year
Santa Monica College Head Coach Nicole Ryan and College of the Canyons Coach Lisa Hooper split the top Western State Conference South Division Coaching Award recently. In addition, College of the Canyons sophomore outside hitter Serena LeDuff was named the WSC South Player of the Year for the second straight season.
Santa Monica College Head Coach Nicole Ryan and College of the Canyons Coach Lisa Hooper split the top Western State Conference South Division Coaching Award recently. In addition, College of the Canyons sophomore outside hitter Serena LeDuff was named the WSC South Player of the Year for the second straight season.
It's the fourth overall Coach of the Year award for Hooper and her second straight. Hooper guided the Cougars to their second straight WSC South Crown and also their fourth overall. Canyons was 21-4 overall and a perfect 12-0 in conference contests. Ryan meanwhile helmed a Corsairs squad that posted it's best season since 2005. Santa Monica went 18-6 on the year and finished 10-2 in WSC South play.
On the player's side Duff became just fifth player in Western State Conference history to repeat as a player of the year. Duff followed up her outstanding freshman campaign with another stand out sophomore season in which she was second in the entire WSC in kills per set (3.94) and total kills (343). LeDuff converted on 26% of her hitting attempts and averaged 3.49 digs per set.
