Ventura’s Chung Named State Athlete of the Year
Ventura College Sophomore swimmer Henry Chung was named the 2013 California Community College Athletic Association California Community College Sports Information Association State Male Athlete of the Year recently.
Ventura College Sophomore swimmer Henry Chung was named the 2013 California Community College Athletic Association California Community College Sports Information Association State Male Athlete of the Year recently.
Sophomore Henry Chung completed an outstanding two-year career in the pool recently, leaving his name all over the record books and as one of the best Pirates to get in the water for Ventura College in program history.
In the Spring of 2013, Chung picked up his sophomore season, right where he left off an awesome freshman campaign. Chung remained undefeated as an individual in the water, by winning six events at the Western State Conference Championships and three individual titles at the 2013 CCCAA State Championships. As a part of his six conference championships, Chung broke his own record in the 50 Free, helped establish a new mark in the 200 Medley Relay, and then smashed a 19-year old conference record in the 200 Back. At the State Championships, Chung, won the 50 Free, 100 Back, and 200 Back, and was named the 2013 CCCAA State Swimming Athlete of the Year for the second year running. His time in the 100 Back is the fastest time in State History, and was the fastest time of any national community college swimmer in the country.
Chung was named an All-American in eight events in 2013, and closed his two-year career with 15 All-American titles to his name. Over two seasons, Chung won 12 conference titles, and six State Championships. In addition to his impressive athletic resume, Chung was also named a Ventura College Scholar Athlete and National Community College Scholarship All-American in the classroom. Chung originally hails from Hong Kong where he attended Diocesan Boys High School, and will matriculate to the University of California, Berkeley on an athletic scholarship in the Fall of 2013.
