Ventura Men and Bakersfield Women Pace WSC Effort at State Championships
The Ventura College Men’s Swim team and the Bakersfield College Women’s Swim team paced the efforts by Western State Conference schools at the 2014 CCCAA State Swim and Dive Championships this past weekend. The Pirates finished 6th overall with 240 points while the Renegades were 10th overall with 172 points.

The Pirates finished 6th overall with 240 points while the Renegades were 10th overall with 172 points.
In the men's team standings, Cuesta finished just behind Ventura with 203 points. Santa Monica College and Bakersfield College finished 13th and 14th respectively with 117 points and 113 points. On the women's side Cuesta College (116 points), Santa Barbara City College (111 points), and Los Angeles Valley College (63 points), and finished just behind each other. The four schools finished 11th, 12th, and 15th overall.
Individually on the women's side, LA Valley College's Mor Flaisman had a strong showing finished 2nd in the 500 Free (5:07.72), and 2nd in the 1650 Free (17:54.52). Santa Barbara City College's Rachelle Visser had a pair of third place finishes in the 200 IM (2:10.94) and 100 Fly (58.65). Cuesta College's Rachel Gruetzmacher rounded out the individual female performances with a 3rd place showing in the 100 Free (52.17).
On the men's side, there were a number of key performances led by Santa Monica's Jia Ng. Ng set a pair of State Meet records on the weekend in winning the 100 Breast (53.80) and 200 Breast (1:59.15). Cuesta's Georan Meendering also had a solid showing finished 2nd in the 100 Back (51.32) and winning the 200 Back (1:49.73). Bakersfield College's Andrew Hargis was the other WSC representative to finish in the Top 3, with a 2nd place finish in the 500 Free (4:31.35). In addition, a pair of relay teams had strong showings. Ventura College's 200 Free Relay finished 3rd (1:24.57), and Cuesta's 400 Free Relay also finished 3rd (3:04.76).
