NORWALK – The Ventura College (VC) Pirates stifling defense produced poor first-half shooting and vaulted them to a 68-55 win over the Mt. San Antonio College (MSAC) Mounties in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Women's Basketball Championships Final Sunday afternoon (Mar. 16) at Falcon Gymnasium on the campus of Cerritos College.

Five Women’s Basketball Programs to Represent WSC in Upcoming Post-Season

The 2014 California Community College Athletic Association Southern California Women’s Basketball Playoff seeds were announced on Monday afternoon, and the Western State Conference will have five representatives in the post-season. The WSC North got four seeds, while the WSC South will be represented by just their conference champ.

College of the Canyons sophomore Keiona Mathews was named the Western State Conference North Division Player of the Year on Sunday afternoon, while Ventura College Women’s Basketball Head Coach Ned Mircetic earned his 10th Coach of the Year honor.

The Los Angeles Valley College Women’s Basketball program had a clean sweep of the 2014 Western State Conference South Division Women’s Basketball Post-Season Awards. Sophomore Lunden Junious-Reliford was named the Most Valuable Player, while fourth year Head Coach Monica Hang was named the Coach of the Year.

LA Valley Clinches Second Straight WSC South Title

Valley Glen, CA -- The Los Angeles Valley College Women’s Basketball program clinched their second straight Western State Conference South Division title on Saturday evening. The Monarchs defeating visiting Citrus College 79-64, mathematically clinching the division for LA Valley with two dates left in the 2014 conference schedule.

Ventura, CA -- The Ventura College Women’s Basketball program wrapped up their 24th straight conference title on Saturday night in their 88-34 win over visiting Santa Barbara City College. It’s also the Pirates 27th conference championship under Head Coach Ned Mircetic.

Not much has changed for the Western State Conference in the most recent California Community College Women’s Basketball Coaches Association State and Regional Polls. The Western State Conference is represented by four teams in the State Poll and SoCal Polls. Three of the four teams in the poll hail from the WSC North.

Ventura College’s Lisa Marie Sanchez and Cuesta College Head Women’s Basketball Ron Barba were given the top WSC North honors recently. Sanchez was the WSC North Player of the Year, while Barba was named the WSC North Coach of the Year.
