Ventura Claims 24th Straight Conference Title
Ventura, CA -- The Ventura College Women’s Basketball program wrapped up their 24th straight conference title on Saturday night in their 88-34 win over visiting Santa Barbara City College. It’s also the Pirates 27th conference championship under Head Coach Ned Mircetic.
Ventura, CA -- The Ventura College Women's Basketball program wrapped up their 24th straight conference title on Saturday night in their 88-34 win over visiting Santa Barbara City College. It's also the Pirates 27th conference championship under Head Coach Ned Mircetic.
In the win, the Pirates were led by sophomore Lisa Marie Sanchez who scored 17 points and handed out seven assists. Ventura shot a blazing 82% from the floor in the second half alone en route to the victory.
The streak of 24 consecutive straight conference titles is believed to be the longest in CCCAA Women's Basketball history. It's also believed to be the third longest in any CCCAA sponsored sport just behind Golden West College's Men's Water Polo program which just won its 25th consecutive Orange Empire Conference Championship this past fall, and College of the Desert Men's Golf who have won 26 straight conference championships headed into this Spring season.
The Pirates still have two WSC contests left on it's 2014 schedule, beginning on Wednesday when they host College of the Canyons at 5:00 PM.
